Mogea Study Guide

What is the Missouri General Education Assessment? The Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA) measures student's current knowledge in the following 5 areas: English, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Students must earn a passing score on all 5 sub-tests on the MoGEA. Passing scores for the first two years will vary by institution in Missouri. Passing scores for Missouri State students have been set at: Sub-Test Passing Score Reading Comprehension 186 Writing 167 Mathematics 183 Science and Social Studies 183 This test is required for all BSED and BME students. This test is NOT required for postbaccalaureate, teacher certification students, or students pursuing initial certification through a graduate program (MAT, SEACT, VIP, Counseling, Administration). All 5 areas must be passed in order for a student to be admitted to the Teacher Education program.

How are the qualifying scores (cut scores) set? (Updated 6/2015) Currently each institution has set their own qualifying scores for the MoGEA based in part on the performance of the first group of students who completed this assessment. Each institution will continue to set and maintain their own qualifying scores for the 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16 academic years. Once students have 'met' the qualifying scores at the institution level, this requirement will be met even if their scores are lower than the established state scores which will be set in August 2016. Individuals who take the test after August 1, 2016 will need to meet the established state qualifying scores.

A new 'revised' MoGEA exam will be launched in August 2015. In this version, Science and Social Studies will be combined into one test. Therefore, if a student previously passed either science or social studies but not both, that student will need to take the new combined science/social studies section of the revised MoGEA exam. Students are allowed to combine previous passing scores in the other sub-tests with scores on the new revised MoGEA starting fall 2015. In addition, all teacher education programs will need to review their cut scores in Novemeber 2015 and may change the cut scores required at their institution for the 2015-16 academic year. Score Delay Notices - Per the DESE Website Educator Preparation Programs will continue to set their own passing scores for MoGEA for the 2015–2016 academic year.

However, the Missouri State Board of Education will establish the MoGEA scoring scale at its November 30/December 1, 2015, meeting. Score reports will be issued on December 18, 2015. If you take the MoGEA between August 31 and November 22, your scores will NOT be available until December 18, 2015. What if I took the C-Base Exam? Students who passed all sections of the C-Base with a 265 or higher can use those scores to be admitted to Teacher Education until December 31, 2016. After that date, C-Base scores will expire.

Guide

Students who did not pass all sections of C-Base with at least a 265 will need to take all 5 sections of the MoGEA per DESE rule. Missouri State is unable to combine passed sections of the C-Base and MoGEA for admission to Teacher Education. Once a student meets all criteria and is admitted to Teacher Education whether it's with the C-Base or MoGEA, that admission will not expire. When would I take the MoGEA?
