Hey everyone, I'm completely new to this site and new to the whole 'owning a snowmobile' bit. I was anyone could confirm the year of the sled I purchased yesterday, I believe it's a '96, the owner said a '97, but based on what I've looked at online it looks to be a '96. I was also hoping that I could get any info that might be considered as useful about this sled. The only reason for selling was because the family was moving and wouldn't have the space for it anymore. It was the father's sled but he died and the son really didn't seem to know too much about it. I bought it for $500, and was told from a bunch of people that that was a wicked deal. Only about 2,000 miles on it.

And any useful tips for getting it winter ready would be appreciated! I don't really know what to do at all haha!

The sled looks pretty good, it's got a couple dings in it, but for 500 I figured if it lasted me a couple years before hopefully buying another then it's worth it! Thanks for reading and trying to help.

I recommend getting a manual. You can usually find them on ebay or at your local Polaris shop.

You need to understand how snowmobiles work and how to do the basic maintenance. Every year, I go through my sled and grease the suspension (front and back), clean the carbs, and both clutches. For a newly aquired sled, I would remove the rear suspension, pull the two top shafts (where the suspension mounts), and make sure they are clean and greased.

Also, dump all the fuel (it may have water in it), put in new fuel and definitely clean the carbs. Clean and inspect both clutches. Too much to go through here. Start with the manual and post any questions that come up. If you do a 'forum search' for posts under MY name, I posted a lengthy step by step on the clutches a few months ago. You may find more posts from other users with detailed explanations on other parts as well.

Thank you very much! I'm really hoping to learn pretty much everything I need to off this sled before I get something newer! Desk manual. I didn't really want to spend $40 on a manual because I figured I'd be able to learn from people who would be willing to help and teach! My boss is a snowmobile enthusiast and has volunteered to help me with preparing it for winter Also, I believe I need a new voltage regulator. When the snowmobile idles, the headlight flickers. When revved to higher rpms the light is stronger and completely steady.

Thoughts anyone?
