I opted for a 4 door, manual shift, sport package with performance tires and it was tons of fun to drive. I used winter tires for the colder weather and the car handled surprisingly well in the snow. The maintenance & repairs were a little steep, but worth the price as the car was such a pleasure to drive. I had the opportunity to drive a friend's 323 automatic and it was way too slow.
I totally recommned the 3 series, but opt for the manual shift to get the true BMW experience.
